The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party had positively organized the Lahore jalsa on 21st September 2024 as part of a series of public demonstrations to put pressure on the government to release its chairman Imran Khan. This too is the collection near the historical Minar-e-Pakistan that continues to follow the success of PTI’s rally held in the Sangjani area of Islamabad on September 8, 2024, as this is the party’s biggest effort toward the campaign undertaken for the release of Imran Khan.

Thousands of workers from Punjab and other regions converged at the Lahore rally. The primary aim is that the government has been directed to release Imran Khan immediately, as he is still in detention since the controversial political matters arose recently. PTI leaders have termed these public gatherings an integral part of their tactics to depict what they consider unjust detention and to continue pressing the ruling government.

Earlier in Islamabad, PTI faced logistical issues such as venue change and enhanced security measures. Despite all these hurdles, the Sangjani rally became a success where high-profile PTI figures like Ali Amin Gandapur, Barrister Gohar, and Omar Ayub were leading the management of the rally. Followers across various constituencies were not deterred because of roadblocks and more aggressive checkposts by the police, justifying deeper grassroots mobilization led by PTI.

The Lahore jalsa has further reiterated the call the party made so far for the release of Imran Khan with PTI leaders pushing their demand on an urgent basis. The juncture being associated with it goes hand in hand with the view that it is a key moment for PTI’s struggle, not only because its campaign has been gaining momentum over time but also because it increased questions about the legitimacy of the present setup.

With the Islamabad and Lahore rallies behind them, PTI continues to build up the case for Khan’s freedom while rallying public support. More public engagements will follow as they intensify efforts to secure the freedom of their leader and further strengthen their political position, the party has made clear.
