Two Chinese nationals were reportedly injured in a recent shooting by a security guard at the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate area of Karachi on Tuesday. Kemari Senior Superintendent of Police Faizan Ali confirmed the incident from the scene, reporting that the shooting by the security guard had injured the two foreign nationals.
A statement by the Sindh Home Department said a “clash” between the foreigners and security personnel occurred at a local police station. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has ordered the arrest of the security guard who was involved in the clash and directed a detailed inquiry into the incident. He said cross-verifications of all facts must be done and a report sought on the inquiry conducted by the South Deputy Inspector General.
Minister Lanjar also requested that all security service-providing companies be whose services are availed by Chinese nationals as well as other foreign-residing individuals. He further said that every guard should undertake physical as well as mental fitness. He said that only then those guards should be permitted to provide security services with whom these assignments are made properly and effectively, and accordingly, security measures are firm.
Liaquat National Hospital has confirmed that all the injured Chinese nationals have been receiving treatment. According to reports, one of the injured is said to be in critical condition. Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori expressed concern over the incident and said that those who committed this act will have to face the consequences legally.
The incident closely follows the explosion near Jinnah International Airport in October where another Chinese national suffered injury when the Baloch Liberation Army’s Majeed Brigade took responsibility for it. The incidents have led to a wave of concerns regarding the security setup around Karachi for foreign nationals.
