Natasha Iqbal, Deeyat to the Victim’s Family
On Friday, a sessions court in Karachi granted bail to Natasha Danish, the driver involved in last month’s fatal Karsaz accident, along with her husband Danish Iqbal after the victims’ families pardoned them on the charges of manslaughter.
The accident happened on August 19, when the speeding Toyota Land Cruiser of Natasha hit three motorcycles and another car, including a Honda Civic, and overturned on Karsaz Road. It killed Imran Arif, 60, and his daughter, Amna, 22. Three other individuals were hurt in the incident. Later, Natasha was arrested and booked on charges of manslaughter.
A special police team was constituted during the investigation that ensued following an inquiry into the incident. It also nominated Natasha’s husband, Danish Iqbal, as a suspect; however, he was given a seven-day protective pre-arrest bail by the Sindh High Court.
The case took a new turn when the Sindh IG of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon revealed that Natasha was under the influence of the dangerous methamphetamine, more commonly known as crystal meth, at the time of the accident, following which a separate FIR against her was registered under Section 11 PEHO of 1979 related to drinking liable to tazir.
However, she was granted bail in the accident case, Natasha continues to remain in custody since the narcotics case is yet to be closed. The hearing for the case has been kept for Monday.
Defence counsel Advocate Amir Mansoob Qureshi said, “The bail of Natasha was fixed at Rs100,000 while her husband was given a bail of Rs50,000.”.
In a turn of fate for the accused, the family of the victims came forward and announced that they were pardoning Natasha and Danish “in the name of Allah.” Their lawyer, Barrister Aziz Ghouri explained that no blood money was paid as part of the pardon, this decision being in good faith and upon the precepts of the religion.
“They have forgiven the suspect out of court in the name of Allah,” Ghouri said and added the family believed in the high stature of those who forgive. He also denied any reports of a monetary settlement between the parties.
Defence counsel Qureshi said that no restriction was imposed on Natasha to travel abroad and she could go wherever she pleases.
This pardon by the family would, in essence, end the legal matter of the accident, but the narcotics case against Natasha is still pending. To Read More About Case: Click Here
