Disney‘s Hollywood Studios is closing Muppet*Vision 3D to make way for a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land, set to open in 2025. According to the Disney Parks Blog, among other changes, the lovable Muppets are moving to a revamped version of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. (Read About Disney Q4 Earnings)
The new land: Monsters, Inc. will reimagine the southern section of the park with a suspended roller coaster inspired by the film’s iconic door vault scene and a theater show replacing Muppet*Vision 3D. As for Disney, efforts are in the works to preserve elements of the original Muppets attraction for potential future use.
While closing the book on Muppet*Vision 3D, we are excited to announce a new page of the Muppets’ history at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster,” Disney wrote in its statement. The characters will finally make their appearance in a Disney ride for the first time. Expect “laughter, excitement, and new tunes” from this upgrade.
In concept art for the Monsters, Inc. land, Monstropolis will shine with colorful themes, dining, lush greenery, and signature attractions. Guests will find landmarks such as Harryhausen’s sushi restaurant and Monstro, a theater that promises “Late Night Screams.
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions. Fans mourn the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, which debuted in 1991 and was among the last projects Jim Henson worked on. However, the relocation to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster offers a fresh opportunity for Muppet enthusiasts.
Work on the Monsters, Inc. land will commence in 2025, leaving fans a short time frame to experience both the original Muppets attraction and Aerosmith’s Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
