Amy Stokes was a 20-year-old newlywed from County Cavan who lost her life in a car crash on December 23 in Derrylin, County Fermanagh, just three months after her wedding. The accident occurred on Ballyconnell Road where a single-vehicle collision took place late at night in which the Vauxhall Astra she was traveling in crashed.
Amy Stokes, the passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car and another passenger received non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized.
Heartbreak Loss
Amy Stokes’s untimely death leaves her family and friends utterly devastated. Her family’s representative spoke out and stated how deeply they grieve her, stating she will “be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.”
Social media was flooded with condolences, with one well-wisher writing: “Rest in heavenly peace, Amy Stokes. May God grant you the best bed in heaven. Heartbreaking in the days of Christmas.” Another added: “She had her whole life ahead of her. Deepest sympathy to her family.”
A Life Full of Joy and Love
At her funeral, which took place at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Ballyconnell, Amy Stokes was remembered as “radiant and happy,” loved not only by her husband, Damien, but also by her family and friends. She was celebrated during the ceremony through recordings of her singing some of her favorite songs.
Parish priest Fr Liam Kelly said that Amy Stokes had recently discovered she was expecting her first child, which added to the tragedy of her passing.”Two lives were lost that night,” he said, asking for people to take precautions regarding road safety.
On-going Investigation
The PSNI has appealed to witnesses or drivers who had dashcam footage of relevant moments in the crash, which may help in conducting further investigations.
Amy’s death reminds us of all the dangers on the road, especially when festivals are near. She lives with all those people who love the sparkle of her spirit and never wavering love.
