BYD Launches EV Models in Pakistan
The most important gateway to the Pakistani market has been officially marked by the entry of electric vehicle giant BYD, through its flagship models BYD Seal and BYD Atto 3. This development was officially presented in PAPS 2024 in Lahore, which is seen as yet a further solid step towards sustainable mobility in Pakistan. Mega Motor Company (Private) Limited subsidiary of The Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO)-will run manufacturing, marketing, and distribution for BYD in Pakistan.
BYD Seal and Atto 3: New EV Options for Pakistan’s Roads
The BYD Seal offers Dynamic and Premium trims beginning at Rs 14.79 million and Rs 16.99 million, respectively. The car has been designed to deliver efficient power that comes in the 82.56 kWh Blade Battery with a max range of 650km on full charge. It tocks from 0 to 100 km/h within just 5.9 seconds, whereas the performance model of the same time manages this within 3.8 seconds. For those wanting convenience, high-speed charging is supported; the Seal can be charged from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.
The BYD Atto 3, priced at Rs. 8.99 million, is then the affordable entry into the EV market. This variant is provided with a 49.92 kWh battery, allowing it to achieve a range of up to 410 km. Atto 3 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, meaning that it is indeed a perfect city car for the urban buyer. Just like the Seal, charging at high speed can take the battery to fullness within 30 minutes. This in turn reduces time wastage and increases the efficiency of EV use across the cities of Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.
Partnership with Mega Motor Company and Future Manufacturing Plans
Company Limited signed the Master Supply and Manufacture Agreement on October 17, 2024. According to this agreement, plans to develop assembly plants and open showrooms in cities throughout Pakistan were agreed as well, apart from building and selling BYD’s EVs in the country. A manufacturing plant outside Karachi’s Port Qasim area is expected to be ready by mid-2026 and would provide a potential springboard for a sustainable production hub, able to challenge the big established brands such as Toyota, Suzuki, and Kia.
The manufacturing project of Mega Motor Company would help make BYD automobiles more accessible in Pakistan. This would strengthen domestic production lines while working in tandem with the massive sustainability drive of the country, thereby eradicating fuel imports alongside skill development and job opportunities being created within the automobile sector.
Launch Event Highlights: A Green Milestone for Pakistan
BYD launched the event at Expo Centre Lahore was also attended by key government officials including Federal Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb who said that it’s an important step in Pakistan’s sustainable development path. Three key models were on display here: the BYD Sealion 6, the BYD Seal, and the BYD Atto 3. All are representing some great technology-driven designs and commitment towards a greener future.
A mega motor company that will envision setting up a nationwide network of showrooms and will sell off these cars as early as the fourth quarter of 2024 under the support of BYD.
