Dense fog has gripped multiple cities in Punjab again. The blanket of fog settled late Friday night and stretched into Saturday morning, causing a complete loss of visibility on main highways. The authorities closed multiple sections of the Motorway.
Motorway officials reported that M2 (Lahore to Kot Momin), M3 (Faizpur to Darkhana), and M4 have been closed for safety reasons. Motorway police have asked drivers to go through the Grand Trunk (GT) Road while asking them to drive very carefully with fog lights. Citizens have also been told not to make unnecessary journeys due to dangerous road conditions.
Unfortunately, the thick fog also led to a deadly accident in Tandlianwala, where six members of the same family including women and children, were killed. The car belonging to the family had crashed into a tractor-trolley loaded with sugarcane on a fog-covered suburban road. Three members of the family were also injured and taken to the hospital. The driver of the tractor-trolley was missing, but the authorities have registered a case and started the investigation.
The police said that the family was traveling from Lahore to Tandlianwala, as they were coming off the motorway. The children who died were between three and six years of age.
Dense fog continues to affect traffic on other major roads and highways, and low visibility is also reported on the National Highway. The authorities clarified that the closure is a must to ensure the safety of commuters.
Residents are asked to remain indoors and follow traffic updates since the weather is not letting up.
