President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the ultimate effort toward an all-round reform of the federal bureaucracy through a new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The initiative, according to Trump, is also to reduce redundant government agencies, eliminate excessive regulations, and appropriate management of taxpayers’ funds.
It’s time for transformative change, Trump declared on Tuesday evening. He compared the effort to a Manhattan Project for our era, one that would bring forth a more effective government, designed to improve life for every American. By putting two high-powered members of the private sector in charge, Trump hopes to transition government operations toward a businesslike management style.
Ramaswamy, a vocal Trump supporter and former GOP primary candidate, will work closely with Musk, who has actively endorsed the president-elect in recent months. Together, they plan to eliminate waste and inefficiencies in federal spending, tackling fraud in the annual $6.5 trillion budget. “Their experience from outside government is exactly what we need,” Trump said.
Advocating for a smaller government, Ramaswamy on X said, “We’re going in to cut red tape and create real efficiency.” Even Musk, who has, on numerous occasions publicized his frustrations with the government regulations that adversely affect his businesses, welcomed the opportunity to streamline the agency’s operations and remove redundant oversight.
To coincide with the country’s 250th anniversary of Independence, the Trump administration hopes that this initiative by the two individuals will strike a chord as a lasting legacy. Musk and Ramaswamy are likely to be more on the board of advisers about formal government positions, therefore, enabling them to apply their expertise in the private sector to public policy.
