Indian Actor and politician, Govinda was admitted to a local hospital on Tuesday morning after he was hit by an accidental gunshot at his Juhu, Mumbai residence. The incident occurred at about 4:45 AM when the 60-year-old actor was getting ready to proceed to Kolkata. Reports said that the actor was handling his licensed revolver when it accidentally fired on him leaving a bullet in his leg.
He has been rushed to CritiCare Hospital from where the bullet that is lodged just below his knee from the left side has been removed. His condition is stable now and is being observed in the ICU as a precautionary measure.
Actor Shashi Sinha, his close aide confirmed the details of the accident when he said, “He was going to leave for Kolkata when the revolver accidentally fell and fired a shot. Govinda ji is out of danger and doing well”. He further said that Govinda is conscious and talking to family members.
His wife Sunita Ahuja, who is based elsewhere and not in the city, speaks appreciatively of the professional treatment he received. She said in a statement. “I am rushing to be with him, but I am comforted that he is stable,”
His daughter, Tina Ahuja, who is accompanying him at the hospital now also provided an update. She said “Papa is much better now. The surgery went well and all his test results have been positive. He will stay in the ICU for 24 hours as a precautionary measure.”
His nephew is an actor-comedian named Krushna Abhishek who is currently in Australia. “He is recuperating well and we are all hoping for his complete recovery,” he said.
The Mumbai Police have taken custody of the revolver for further investigation. So far Govinda has not lodged a formal complaint. The police are treating it as an accidental discharge.
The much loved actor also made a short audio message from his hospital bed, thanking his fans and well-wishers. “Your prayers and blessings, along with those of my parents and guru, have saved me. I’m grateful to the doctors for their prompt care.”
While the actor remains in the hospital for a few more days, his family and fans are relieved that it did not turn out to be a more serious injury. The incident has once again highlighted the importance of firearm safety in the hands of experienced people.
It is by God’s grace that the injury was limited to his leg and nothing more serious happened,” added Sinha. According to his manager, Govinda was to board a 6 AM flight for Kolkata for a show, and the accident took place just as the actor was about to leave.
