The critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series Severance returns for its second season on Friday, January 17, promising to delve deeper into the mysteries of Lumon Industries. The first season, which was released in 2022, was well-received and captivated audiences with its unique premise, garnering a 97% Rotten Tomatoes rating and 14 Emmy nominations.
Severance tells the story of employees who receive a treatment designed to segregate their work life from their personal life. In both settings, nothing is remembered regarding the other: nothing in their work life and vice versa. Season one followed Mark Scout, played by Adam Scott, whose seemingly bifurcated life started falling apart following a mysterious encounter with an old acquaintance.
The upcoming season resumes immediately following the intense conclusion of the previous one. Mark and his associates had initiated the activation of their “innie” memories beyond the confines of their workplace in a daring effort to unveil the hidden truths of Lumon. However, the plan is shocked when it discovers that Mark’s therapist inside the office, Ms. Casey, is his dead wife, Gemma.
In season two, Mark and his team face the fallout of having tampered with the severance barrier. The showrunner Dan Erickson hinted towards deeper explorations with the Egan family and Lumon’s mysterious workings. Here’s what fans are looking forward to: more of Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, John Turturro, and Patricia Arquette, and brand new additions in Sarah Bock joining the ensemble.
The 10-episode season will broadcast weekly on Fridays, wrapping up on March 21. For newcomers, Severance season one is fully available on Apple TV+.
As the countdown begins, Erickson hinted at the escalating stakes: “At Lumon, there is no victory without pain.” Fans wait with bated breath for their burning questions in this twisted workplace thriller.
