Following the disastrous floods caused by DANA in Valencia, it was the daughter of Infanta Elena who welcomed her uncle, King Felipe VI, who paid a visit to the area. On social media, she was singing praises for the king and Queen Letizia as they ventured through challenging weather in Paiporta to reach out to residents.
She had placed posts with a touching reference to Felipe VI as the “true servant of the people.” She praised him because of his empathy and dedication towards the people who had been affected. She described him as unique since “he is the only one who has shown his face” because he devoted himself to listening to the complaints of citizens who lost relatives and properties due to the storm.
The visit was far from tension-free, as some locals hurled mud at the royal couple, clear evidence of the desperation in that community. However, the King and Queen remained calm and greeted residents to offer them consolation. Queen Letizia appeared visibly moved as she embraced several residents, sharing with them their grief and urging them not to lose hope amidst the devastation.
The Royal Family posts of encouragement at this critical moment have canceled all other engagements by the royal family to take part in responding to this crisis. In addition, the King has engaged all resources of the Royal Household for the use of both Interior and Defense Ministries in Spain to help out local authorities in relief and recovery efforts while units of the Royal Guard have been forwarded to the disaster zone.
The Royal Family also is active in responding, engaging with officials actively to help re-establish normalcy in the affected regions.
