Sunny Mahdi and Veah Netherton, two stars of 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days, are at a critical point in their relationship with an unexpected engagement. The couple has decided to stay together despite the significant cultural and personal differences between them.
Sunny, originally from Bangladesh, has been living in Durham and helping run his father’s business. He met Veah, a 27-year-old from Florida, on a dating app a year before filming began. Veah flew to South Africa to meet Sunny, but tensions quickly arose when she brought her ex-boyfriend Rory along. Rory’s presence unsettled Sunny, but it was issues surrounding Sunny’s family that posed a deeper challenge.
Veah had felt like she was being left out of Sunny’s family. She was worried that his family would not accept her because of her tattoos and because of her different religious beliefs. Sunny is a devout Muslim, and he was insistent that if they were to have a future together, Veah would have to convert to Islam. He even said he would not continue the relationship unless she agreed.
Despite all this, Sunny proposed to Veah while hiking. He told Veah that he was rebelling against his family, religion, and friends to get to her. Veah, who had already made it known that she didn’t want to get baptized into Christianity, agreed to stay with him and got engaged.
Still, the couple’s next difficulty will arise when they aim to announce their engagement with the father of Sunny. So, Sunny’s family, by any chance, rejects Veah, which leaves their future together complicated for the couple. 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days telecasts every Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on TLC, and audience viewers eagerly await how such a relationship will work for both Sunny and Veah.
