Golden State Warriors superstar Andrew Wiggins has never forgotten to give credit to his long-time partner, Mychal Johnson, for his unwavering support. This has enabled him to be successful on and off the basketball court. Their first meeting was when both were in high school in West Virginia, and they have since established a life filled with love, basketball, and family values.
Shared Passion for Basketball
Both Wiggins and Johnson are so deeply connected to the sport that brought them together. Wiggins was making waves at Huntington Prep and then again as the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, while Johnson was doing her own thing. She was a standout at St. Joseph High School, leading her team to multiple state championships before playing college basketball at Notre Dame.
She knows the sacrifices and challenges of an athlete,” Wiggins said in an interview. “Her experience as a player allows her to support me while raising our beautiful children.”
Creating a Family
The couple welcomed their first daughter, Amyah, in 2018 and their second daughter, Alayah, in 2021. The two of them often post photos that show glimpses of family life, even when marking milestones like Amyah’s first day of kindergarten or Alayah’s preschool.
A self-proclaimed “girl dad,” Wiggins labeled fatherhood as the richest part of his life. “Coming home to my daughters after a tough game is everything. Their smiles and love make it all worthwhile, he said.
In October 2024, Johnson announced they were expecting their third child, further expanding this close-knit family.
Constant Source of Support
She’s a regular at Chase Center, cheering loudly when Wiggins is on the court during Warriors games. Some of her game-day attire features personalized touches — jersey numbers or custom jewelry indicating how proud she is to have him as her partner in life.
“One thing about us—we’ll always be his number one fans,” she captioned a photo of herself and her daughters supporting Wiggins courtside.
A Life of Adventure
Outside of the court, Wiggins and Johnson always enjoy family time through traveling and shared experiences. From tropical getaways in Hawaii and Fiji to quiet moments at home, Johnson frequently posts photos of their adventures with captions like, “More grateful than I could ever be for my little family.”
A Legacy of Basketball
No one would have been surprised had Wiggins been drafted into the NBA, given his athletic background. His dad, Mitchell Wiggins, was an excellent player on the court, mostly recognized for his defensive ability and rebounding prowess. Their competitive nature and discipline were left with him by his dad. “He was a warrior on the court and a great role model for me,” said Andrew of his father.
Looking Ahead
Wiggins continues to write his mark with the Warriors. Johnson is always there, being the anchor, holding a supportive relationship as a good mother, an excellent lover, and a former athlete. Here, both of them express the power of a shared value-motivated and mutual respect-based partnership.
Their story is a living testimony of love, family, and tenacity that speaks for the whole world in professional sports.
