Apple’s current update coincides with the company’s 44th IPO anniversary, which is well-accompanied by such big highlights as its share value shooting up 25% this year and AI.

The tech monolith recently unveiled iOS 18.1, its batch of which includes an integration of Siri with the ChatGPT tool, features of generative writing instruments, and other added productivity features now adorning its iPhones.

These inventions of AI speak of the rising dependence of Apple on semiconductor technology. Its long-time partner, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, remains Apple’s linchpin chip supplier. TSMC recently opened its state-of-the-art fabrication facility in Phoenix, Arizona. The company calls the “most advanced chip fab” in the United States a pilot project that produces test wafers for semiconductors. For Apple, TSMC’s largest client for this facility, using homegrown chips means a radical shift in the supply chain for the technology company.

It’s CEO Tim Cook was much more enthusiastic as he highlighted the importance of having U.S.-made chips for the company to meet its increased demand. TSMC also plans to double its Arizona facility with investments of $65 million for building two additional fabs by 2030. These developments are going to increase production capacity and maintain TSMC’s leadership position in the semiconductor market.

Such positioning has made TSMC grow 96 percent over the past year above and beyond the growth achieved by Apple and other prominent companies. According to Daniel Newman, The Futurum Group, it is because of this reliability and quality in producing that TSMC commands premium prices.
