Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey, who was having a wonderful season, saw his season suffer a major jolt on Wednesday night. He suffered a severe leg injury in the Pistons’ 105-96 win over the Orlando Magic when he fell after colliding with Magic guard Cole Anthony.
With only a little over ten minutes left in the fourth quarter, Anthony slipped and fell into Jaden Ivey’s planted leg, leaving the 22-year-old writhing in pain on the court. The game was halted as trainers attended to Jaden Ivey, and he was eventually stretchered off to a standing ovation from the crowd, who chanted his name in support.
The injury left an emotional impact on the team, and according to head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, “It’s tough on the whole group. He’s built for this, and we know he’ll work hard to return stronger.”
Jaden Ivey’s injury overshadowed an otherwise solid game from the Pistons. He accounted for 22 points before the exit and supported Detroit’s fourth win in the last five matches. Key starters such as Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren stepped up during the game: Cunningham scored 19 points along with nine assists, while Duren had 18 points with 11 rebounds.
The Pistons have had an outstanding season and will be nervous while waiting to learn the prognosis of Ivey’s condition. Pre-injury, Jaden Ivey had career-high numbers in many statistics: points, at 17.4 points per game; field-goal percentage, 45.3 percent; and 3-point percentage, 39.2 percent. Jalen Suggs contributed 24 points for the Magic. They played really well during that short spurt in the third quarter; yet, they just could not see it through to emerge victorious against the Pistons.
Ivey’s absence makes it difficult for the Pistons as they progress into the season, but resilience and determination have hopes of him coming back in shape. Wishing him a speedy recovery, the entire league joins to send warmest wishes.
