Yvette Nicole Brown attributes much of her early growth as an actress to the time she spent working with young co-stars on the hit Nickelodeon series Drake & Josh. In a recent interview, the actress, who played Helen Dubois, manager of the Premiere Theater and Josh’s boss, spoke about how watching Drake Bell, Josh Peck, and Miranda Cosgrove shaped her early career.
It was amazing to see Drake, Josh, and Miranda be so professional at such young ages,” Brown explained. “I was just starting as an actor, so I was learning by watching these kids excel on set.”
The show, which aired from 2004 to 2007, was about two stepbrothers, their family, and how they have some mischievous shenanigans involving the younger sister. Helen, Brown’s character, appeared only in 15 episodes but was a fan favorite in that.
Reflecting on her time on the show, Brown described it as a “training ground” where she developed her craft. “It was one of the first projects I’d ever worked on. To be surrounded by such talent, even in younger co-stars, was an incredible experience,” she said.
Brown and Peck recently reunited on his Good Guys podcast, where they re-enacted scenes from the series, including the memorable “Helen’s Surgery” episode. “Me and Josh fell right back into those characters. It was like no time had passed,” she shared.
Even two decades down the line, people associate Brown with her role in Drake & Josh. “If I get stopped on the street, it’s usually because of Helen. People love her, even after all these years,” she added.
According to Brown, the thought process is that Drake & Josh has been long in the minds of people and inspired her career. The legacy still lives on because the audience still loves the humor of the show and its characters.
